孤独を人は敢えて探らない -

The Loneliness One dare not sound –

And would as soon surmise

As in its Grave go plumbing

To ascertain the size –

孤独を人は敢えて探らない - 

推測に留めておく方がまし

墓のなかまで測りに行って

大きさを確かめるよりも - 

The Loneliness whose worst alarm

Is lest itself should see –

And perish from before itself

For just a scrutiny –

孤独は最悪の不安を抱える

自分で自分の姿を見ないか - 

自分が消えてしまわないか

じろじろ詮索されるだけで - 

The Horror not to be surveyed –

But skirted in the Dark –

With Consciousness suspended –

And Being under Lock –

測られることもないおそれ - 

闇のなかに閉じ込められて - 

意識は宙吊りにされたまま - 

存在は常に施錠されたまま - 

I fear me this – is Loneliness –

The Maker of the soul

Its Caverns and its Corridors

Illuminate – or seal –

私はこれこそ - 孤独だと思う - 

魂の創造主よお願いします

魂の洞穴とそこ迄の廊下を

灯りで照らすか - 密閉するか -
