可愛い喋りは - 酔っ払いのよう - 
あわれなことにしどろもどろ - 

Her fingers fumbled at her work –
Her needle would not go –
What ailed so smart a little Maid –
It puzzled me to know –

少女の指は縫い物をまさぐり - 
針はまったく動かなくなった - 
こんなに賢い娘を何が悩ます - 
私にはわけが分からなかった - 

Till opposite – I spied a cheek
That bore another Rose –
Just opposite – Another speech
That like the Drunkard goes –

やがて反対側の - 頬に気づいた
そこにも別のバラ色が見えた - 
まさに反対側で - また別の言葉
酔っぱらいのような話し方 - 

A Vest that like her Bodice, danced –
To the immortal tune –
Till those two troubled – little Clocks
Ticked softly into one.

下着につられて，ベストも踊る - 
不滅の調べに合わせていたが - 
ふたつの悩みの - 小さな時計
静かに時を刻み一つになった．
